Going to Caminito del Rey by Train

You can go by train! And it is actually very easy. But it is possible just if you have your tickets entrance to Caminito del Rey from 12PM to 14PM.

Where is the catch? There is only one: the departure is at 10AM, it's a 45 mins trip to El Chorro (Caminito del Rey exit) and you must take the train back at 3PM or 6PM, so you will necessarily will wait a few hours, before or after the walk.

We love to make things easier, so we propose here a schedule for you.

Before reading the schedule, you must book in advance:

  • Your Caminito del Rey tickets, choose any starting time from 12:00 to 14:00 hrs, subject to availability.
  • Your train tickets from Maria Zambrano Malaga Train Station to "El Chorro" at 10:00AM. You can print your train tickets at self service machines at Málaga Train Station, but remember that the train does not wait for anybody!

Our Proposed Schedule:

  • 10:00AM - Departure time will be a few minutes after 10:00AM.
  • 10:50AM - You will arrive to El Chorro (Caminito del Rey exit).
  • 11:00AM - Just outside the train platform you will find a bus to Caminito del Rey North Entrance. If you book your Caminito del Rey tickets with the bus option, use your printed papers to get in. An inspector will cut the section of your paper. You can also pay 1,55€ with coins.
  • 11:20AM - Get off the bus at the first stop, at the "El Mirador de Ardales" restaurant. You can have a long brunch here while you enjoy the view. There is also another restaurant 200 mts from there (the second bus stop) called "El kiosko". The last one is cheaper but it doesn't have the same view.
  • 13:00PM to 14:00PM - You must walk from the restaurants area to the tickets control point. Depending on your Caminito del Rey starting time, consider you will walk 30 minutes if you go through the tunnel or 50 minutes if you choose the clear area. If your tickets are for a guided visit, you have to arrive to the tickets control point 15 minutes earlier.
Use the tunnel entrance to save time.

You can see tunnel's end and it is illuminated.

  • 14:00PM to 15:00PM - From the tickets control office, you will walk two hours through Caminito del Rey path back to El Chorro train station (without stops, except the ones for pictures).
  • 18:00PM - Train departures from El Chorro train station to Malaga.
  • 18:50PM - Arrival to María Zambrano Malaga Train Station.

You can buy your train tickets at Renfe webpage. If you have a credit card from a bank outside the EU and you have problems with your payment, try PayPal.

We can also book Caminito del Rey and train tickets for you if you need to. Just contact us and we will check all details for you for a reasonable fee.
